We commit to working with our patients to stabilize their condition, prevent progression and figure out the least amount of work needed to maintain a lifetime of healthy, beautiful eyes and vision.

Dry Eye seems like a simple issue. Your eyes are dry, so you need to add moisture, right? Unfortunately, dry eye is a multifactorial disease that results in symptoms of discomfort, visual disturbances, and tear film instability. It is critical to implement treatments early in order to prevent progression. If left untreated, this can lead to permanent damage to the structures of your meibomian glands and overall comfort and quality of vision.

We’ve invested in some cutting-edge diagnostic equipment and treatments to best manage ocular surface disease like never before. Using objective measurements allows our doctors to customize a treatment plan that works best for you.

WHAT IS DRY EYE DISEASE?
Dry Eye Disease is characterized by a loss of homeostasis of the tear film. This means it can be caused by many factors that reduce or negatively affect the quality of the tears and their ability to wet the eye properly.

Your tear film contains both water and oil. Many things such as systemic inflammation, hormones, medications, your work environment, and even what you eat and drink may influence the quality of your tears. The majority of people with dry eyes have dysfunctional meibomian glands that do not adequately contribute oil into the tear film. This oil is essential in delaying tear evaporation and preventing dryness.

Dry eye is a very complex condition, for which there is no cure. Symptoms vary widely from person to person, but may include redness, burning, itching, tearing, sensitivity, pain, fluctuating vision, and frequent blinking or difficulty opening the eye. Alternatively, some patients experience surface damage from dry eye without feeling the discomfort. In either case, as damage progresses they symptoms can become debilitating. It is critical to implement treatments early in order to prevent progression.

IPL

Intense pulsed light, or IPL, has long been used in skincare, and now it’s a proven treatment for chronic dry eye and meibomian gland disease.

Meibomian gland dysfunction is the leading cause of dry eyes, as it prevents the eye’s oil glands from functioning properly, meaning your eyes don’t get the necessary moisture. IPL helps to treat MGD by emitting a spectrum of light. This light helps to dissolve the blockages in the meibomian glands, helping to treat dry eye symptoms, improve overall comfort, and reduce eyelid redness. The treatment is quick and comfortable and is done in office. We recommend 4 treatments to maximize the results. An additional benefit of the IPL treatments is the reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, allowing your eyes to truly shine.

TEARCARE

Tearcare is a blink-assisted device that applies heat to your eyelids to remove the blockages in the meibomian glands. Meibomian gland blockages are often associated with dry eye.

This procedure is done in the office and is much more comfortable than other meibomian gland treatment methods. Many compare it to a relaxing spa-like experience for your eyes. After the heat is applied, our doctors will assess your meibomian glands and apply gentle pressure to clear any remaining blockages.

NULIDS

Nulids is a safe and effective, FDA-registered eyelid hygiene device. It was created to improve dry eye symptoms and provide relief. Using this device takes a few minutes and targets your eyelids. By taking care of your eyelid health we can improve your symptoms associated with Dry Eye! Most people see a noticeable improvement in 8-10 days.
